How to Make a Marble Glow Lamp

How to Make a Marble Glow Lamp

Light up the night or provide a glowing beacon of light for your little one who may be a nervous about sleeping in the dark. These marble glow lamps have a number of uses--from acting as a trusty nightlight to adding interest to your next table setting; a marble glow lamp is a inventive substitute to candles or plug in light bulbs.

Steps

  1. Choose your mason jar(s). You will be filling the jar with marbles so make sure you like the jar design, size and shape.

  2. Clean and wash the jar, even if you are starting with a new jar. Once you fill the jar you won't want to go back and wash it. A simple bath in soap and water, followed by towel drying, will set you up for success.

    • Select marbles. Consider purchasing marbles that compliment your theme or room colors. Avoid solid colored marbles as they will block any light trying to shine through. However, you can still purchase marbles in a variety of colors as long as you can see through them.

    • Place a thin layer of marbles to the bottom of the jar. Line the bottom of the jar with a few marbles, covering the bottom. This will act as the base to your battery operated candle.

    • Turn the battery operated votive candle(s) to the "on" position and place inside the jar. Do this immediately prior to use in order to get the most from the battery.

    • Consider adding more than one votive candle to the jar if you are working with a large container.

    • Fill the jar with marbles. Once the candles have been lit and placed, add the rest of the marbles. Don't dump the bag into the jar, but instead place small handfuls so you don't tip the candle.

      • Top off the jar with marbles, but not so many that they could roll out of the container.

    • Finished.
